Recent research over the past few years has underlined London’s status as the best city in the world to grow a tech business. More and more tech startups have been basing themselves in the capital and with good reason, for London seems to be attracting an increasing number of venture capitalists too.
According to Stack Overflow, an online developers group, there are 25% more tech professionals in London than in New York, at a figure of 71,000!
Backing up the research, recent data from the Mayor of London’s promotional company, London & Partners, predicts that the wider tech workforce will grow by another 22% in the next ten years to reach a total of 239,700 by 2025. This is a rate which will be four times faster than any other sector in the UK, which is fantastic news for the sector and for those who are working in the tech field.
Interpretation of the data by London & Partners, following the research by Oxford Economics, states that the number of tech companies will rise in the next ten years to 51,000 which is a 92% increase from 2010. If this comes to pass, it means a huge number of jobs will be on offer, over the next decade, for those working in the tech sector.
So, perhaps those approaching school leaving age, those looking for their first job, or those starting a university degree should reassess which field they want to go into. The tech sector looks set to continue its growth spurt so you’d be very silly to not even consider trying to get into a tech field before it comes even more competitive!
The capital’s hotbed status has attracted much attention from other areas of the UK, as well as the rest of the world, with Mayor Boris Johnson stating: “London is a hotbed for tech talent. It is Europe’s fastest growing tech hub and hosts some of the world’s leading universities.”
So, if you’re a startup looking for top talent, London might be your best bet! Or if you’re someone who works in the tech sector, you may be better off basing yourself in the capital if you want to secure a job with an exciting new tech startup! Either way, good luck to all in your search!
